Mother Knows Best

Part of our mission at Amudim is to ensure that every client receives the help he/she needs as well as access to all necessary resources to handle what’s often a multi-faceted situation. What can seem like insurmountable challenges become manageable with the right support, and leads to real hope for a brighter future.

Estee* is a 27 year-old single mom of three who came to us when a series of difficult events, both acute and resurfacing from the past, became too much to bear. At the age of 11, Estee had been sexually abused by her uncle, a trauma left untreated for years; things only became worse when she married an angry and controlling man, further exacerbating Estee’s fragile coping skills and emotional capacity to handle her life.

Eventually, Estee found the strength to leave her husband, but she was left alone to pick up the financial and emotional pieces while caring for her young children. Difficulties with her job that arose once the pandemic hit only made a hard situation worse. A good friend saw what was happening and suggested that Estee reach out to Amudim. Our case manager heard her story and immediately set to work putting a plan into place to address Estee’s circumstances. The case manager connected Estee with resources to assist with her family’s basic needs, including getting her in touch with organizations that assist battered women. Amudim also set Estee up with legal advice and other family support.

We also discovered upon intake that Estee had never seen a therapist to work through her abuse and pain. Our case manager helped find a professional who accepts Estee’s insurance; and she is now in regular therapy where she finally has a safe space to process her trauma.

Estee is still working through all that she has been through and finding a way to take care of herself and children from a place of strength. We are thrilled that Estee reports feeling that she is already in a far better place and improving each day.

Please call Amudim if you or someone you know needs assistance.

We work every day to change the lives of those in need. We need your help to continue these efforts.

There’s No Place Like Home

Each week, Amudim fields calls covering a wide range of crises and addressing various human concerns, including addiction, depression, abuse, health and domestic emergencies and many others. We track the calls and breakdown of issues for many reasons, foremost of which is to consistently improve and strengthen our knowledge and ability to address community’s needs.

There’s No Place Like Home

After the COVID pandemic hit, Amudim immediately saw the global impact with a dramatic increase in calls for help. Individuals who were suffering based on quarantine/shutdown concerns. People who had lost their jobs, family members, their sense of stability and safety. We are grateful to have been able to step up to the plate to provide much needed assistance; and we could not have done any of this without the generous support of you, our community and partners.

Mission Accomplished! Temporary COVID Support Line Closes as Call Volume Tapers Off

It wasn’t long after the first coronavirus case was confirmed in New York that Amudim realized that along with the physical threat posed by COVID, a devastating mental health crisis was about to unfold before our very eyes….
