Facing demons of the past is never easy. And when they emerge to impact the present, a person can find himself grasping for answers. But it’s never too late; Amudim exists to ensure that with the right support, a brighter future is always possible.
Sara* is a 29 year-old wife and mother who has been struggling in her relationships with her husband and children, much of which she attributes to a history of sexual abuse during her childhood which she never faced or resolved. She was unable to afford therapy but was not seeing success in trying to cope on her own. This is a woman who is yearning to move past her trauma, find healing and reconnect with her family. She wants to learn the life skills of being able to express herself and her emotions in a healthy way, as well as become more mindful and present and able to let go of past pain. Above all else, Sara seeks a way to find the strength to forgive, if only for her own peace of mind.
After hearing about Amudim from a friend, Sara reached out to us seeking help on two fronts: she needed guidance in finding the right therapist who would understand her feelings of mistrust and frustration; and she was desperate to find help with funding the costs. Our case manager began the process of searching for a trauma trained therapist who could address Sara’s needs; she has also been guiding Sara in achieving non-therapeutic goals that they have established together.
Sara is continuing therapy and is working with her case manager on a weekly basis to keep things in perspective. While she still sometimes feels overwhelmed, she knows that she is in good hands and will see continued success with patience and cutting herself some slack. Sara’s family remains supportive as she works through this challenging time, all of them optimistic about a happier future.
