Michal*, a 17 year-old girl, came to Amudim desperate for help in finding a residential treatment center to deal with severe PTSD stemming from childhood trauma and her subsequent attempts at self-harm and suicide. During the intake with our case manager, it emerged that both Michal and her twin brother had been sexually abused at a young age; and while the case had been prosecuted and this predator is now serving jail time, Michal tragically endured further abuse at the hands of a second man two years later.
Her parents have been trying their best to be supportive and understand Michal’s pain, but they are facing their own struggles in dealing with it. Before reaching out to Amudim after a friend told her about how we had helped her, Michal had been hospitalized multiple times, the depression, anxiety and pain too much for a young girl to endure. A once vibrant, talented and happy child became withdrawn, isolated and fearful.
Our case manager assisted Michal in finding an appropriate treatment facility and securing placement. She is just beginning her long road to healing; and we are hopeful that with the right support and consistent follow through, Michal will be able to reclaim her life and look forward to a brighter future.
Humans can be incredibly resilient, but the scars and damage inflicted by abuse can be long lasting and/or permanent without the right assistance. If you or someone you know is facing any sort of crisis, please do not hesitate to reach out. Amudim is here to help along every step of the way.
