Fallen But Can Still Get Up

*Daniel*, a 45 year-old husband and father, began drinking heavily after he lost his job due to the COVID pandemic and then was quarantined at home during the shutdown. He was worried about how he would pay his family’s bills; and there were days that the depression was so debilitating that Daniel couldn’t bring himself to get out of bed. His wife became increasingly concerned about his mental state and that he was becoming an alcoholic, and she called Amudim for help.

Our case manager spoke with Daniel and conducted a complete intake and review of the client’s history. She recommended that Daniel be assessed by both a psychiatrist and a therapist. The doctor prescribed anti-depressants, and the case manager helped find a therapist who began phone sessions with Daniel. We also connected him with a support group for individuals suffering from issues due to the pandemic, and the case manager worked with Daniel to find ways to reduce his drinking. Daniel is learning coping tools and how to take care of himself under these challenging circumstances. He continues to get better one day at a time, and we are following his progress closely to ensure that his path to healing remains strong and steady.
