Finding the Right Way

May 13, 2022

Thoughts of what our future holds in store, whether personal or professional, can sometimes feel frightening and anxiety provoking, especially when we feel a lack of control in determining how to achieve our goals. But with the right support and ability to work through any past issues and find a sense of self-worth, anything is possible.

Ariella*, 25, was feeling unsure of her future, struggling with making meaningful and lasting relationships with others and feeling depressed about her chances of building the family of which she had always dreamed. Her mother had seen an ad for Amudim in one of the local Jewish newspapers and encouraged her daughter to reach out. When Ariella called, she seemed unsure of herself and very nervous; our case manager began by listening to her story and assuring her that they would work together to find the help that Ariella needed.

Ariella required a therapist whose practice was near her workplace and who accepted her insurance, someone who could assist her with the social struggles she was facing. Her case manager set her up with someone who fit those needs, and Ariella began weekly sessions. After several months and regular follow ups, Ariella felt ready to enter the dating world; and our case manager suggested a coach who could guide her through the daunting process of meeting the right person. Working together with her support team: therapist, case manager and coach, Ariella found the self confidence and skills to develop a healthy relationship; and Baruch Hashem, she recently called to tell us that she is engaged. She was grateful for all the help she had received along the process to get to this point; and she feels better than she has in a long time and is hopeful of finding a happy and healthy future.

If you or someone you know is struggling, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Amudim is just a phone call away and here to help.

Amudim Safety Tip
Let children know they’re the boss of their bodies.
Emphasize and create opportunities for them to understand they’re in control of how they interact with others and how others interact with them. Never force hugs or kisses as stand-ins for communication – even with relatives. If a child doesn’t want to hug during greetings and goodbyes, let them know that’s okay – they can wave, high-five, blow a kiss, or simply state their salutations.
