Trigger Warning: Sexual Abuse

We often have to go back before we can move forward. Revisiting pain and traumas of the past is never easy, but the debilitating effects on the future of not resolving these conflicts are too significant to be ignored. Fortunately, there are a plethora of tools and support available to help any individual overcome his/her struggles and discover a happy future.

Chana*, 21, wanted to begin the journey towards getting married and building a family; but she knew she could not start dating without dealing with the anxiety and traumatic impact she dealt with as a victim of child sexual abuse. She had never told anyone and it finally became a burden too great to bear alone; after hearing the episode on Meaningful Minute where I discussed these issues, Chana decided to reach out to Amudim for help.

She was determined and open to getting support, but did not have the financial means to do so. Chana had been living with a friend and did not have any family to which she could turn. Our case manager spoke extensively with Chana about her options, reassured her that she would get the help she so desperately sought, and placed her on the Project Heal waiting list; Chana was approved for funding a short while later. It took several attempts to find a therapist with whom Chana felt comfortable; after discovering one that was the right fit, Chana began regular weekly sessions. After three months, she is working steadily towards healing and making peace with happened to her and feels that she might soon be ready to date. Chana is also tremendously grateful for both the emotional and financial support she has received at every step along the way.

If you or someone you know is struggling, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Amudim is just a phone call away and here to help.
