For better or worse, that which begins in our childhood often follows us into our adult life. We can ignore the problem or hope that it’s not that bad, or we can face it head on. Amudim’s mission is to ensure that no individual should have to do so alone, and to provide any necessary resources of assistance.

Lily* is a 24 year-old woman who finally accepted the fact that she has an addiction that is impacting every area of her life. In high school, she fell in with the wrong group of friends and began drinking “socially” on weekends and at parties. Lily’s friends did not see anything worrisome about her behavior, and her parents did not want to address the reality of the situation. So the years passed, and Lily never sought help for her growing dependence on alcohol to get through each day.

After seeing an ad for Amudim in a local Jewish magazine, Lily called us, feeling that she had nowhere else to turn and that she needed help. After having a long conversation with a case manager about what addiction is and exploring various ways to address her struggles with her family, Lily felt ready to take the next steps. She scheduled a time to speak with her parents and siblings; and the next day, thankfully with their understanding and support, Lily called an addiction treatment center and signed up for individual therapy as well as a support group geared specifically to women with alcohol dependency. To ensure the smoothest path forward, Lily’s case manager worked to find a facility that was close to home and offered the most appropriate type of care.

Facing this struggle will be a long and complex journey; but with Amudim’s help and her family’s encouragement, Lily feels ready to take the necessary leap towards a healthier and happier future. We are hopeful that in time and with consistent effort tied to having a group of loved ones in her corner, Lily will find her way to a lasting recovery.

If you or someone you know is struggling, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Amudim is just a phone call away and here to help.

GittelsLaw

We are thrilled to announce the passage of #GittelsLaw, a groundbreaking bill that aims to protect patients from exploitation by closing a critical loophole in therapist regulations. Spearheaded by Zvi Gluck of Amudim and Assemblymember Sam Berger, this law ensures justice for survivors of abuse by newly licensed mental health professionals.

A huge thank you to Assemblymember Berger, State Senator Nathalia Fernandez, and all our supporters for championing this cause. Now, we urge the Governor to sign this bill into law to safeguard our community’s mental health. 🙌🗽
