WHY CARRY NARCAN?
Narcan (naloxone) works only on opioids and has no known side effects. It will not hurt someone who is not overdosing. It is FDA-approved, available over the counter, and has saved tens of thousands of lives. Amudim provides free Narcan kits and overdose prevention training to communities across the country.

Three Steps to Save a Life
You do not need to feel perfectly ready. You only need to know what to do next.
Give Narcan
One spray = one dose. It takes less than a minute.
- Lay the person on their back
- Peel the package open
- Place the tip into one nostril
- Press the plunger firmly
- If no response after 2 minutes, give another dose
Call 911
Emergency help still needs to come, even if the person wakes up.
- Tell them you think it is an overdose
- Move the person onto their side after giving Narcan
- Watch them closely
- Give details to the 911 operator
Stay With Them
Even if they wake up, the overdose can come back.
- Narcan can wear off before the opioids do
- Stay until EMS arrives
- Reassure them that help is coming
- If they stop responding, give another dose after 2 minutes
Is This an Overdose?
Look for these signs. When in doubt, use Narcan. It will not hurt someone who is not overdosing.
- Unresponsive or unconscious
- Slow, shallow, or stopped breathing
- Blue, gray, or white lips or fingernails
- Gurgling or snoring sounds
- Very small “pinpoint” pupils
Not sure? Use it.
Narcan will not hurt someone who is not overdosing on opioids, but it could save the life of someone who is. Try calling their name and gently shaking them. If they do not respond, act now.
If Someone Is Not Responding
- Try to wake them.
Call their name loudly. Shake their shoulders. - Call 911.
Tell the operator you think it is an overdose and give the address. - Give Narcan.
One spray into one nostril. Tilt the head back slightly. - Move them onto their side.
Support the head and bend the top knee forward. - Wait and watch.
If no response in 2 minutes, give a second dose. Stay until help arrives.
