Isolation is the enemy of wellbeing; every individual needs to know that he/she is supported and loved if there is any chance of living a healthy and satisfied life. Unfortunately, many people who come to us seeking guidance believe that there is no one who understands or cares. And our team works tirelessly on a daily basis to ensure that this isn’t the case.

Moshe*, a 49 year-old man who lives on his own, has struggled with bipolar disorder for many years and has been admitted several times to local hospitals during an active episode. Moshe feels alone and abandoned with his challenges; and after speaking with a family member (one of the few with whom he remains in contact) who suggested that he call Amudim, Moshe reached out for support.

The case manager provided a listening and empathetic ear so that Moshe could explain his complex history. The next step was to find a therapist with experience in treating clients with bipolar disorder and to speak with Moshe’s psychiatrist, with his consent, to discuss medication management. Additionally, Moshe’s case manager helped find and encouraged him to join a local support group in order to connect with other individuals in similar circumstances who can relate to his struggles.

Several months later, Moshe is attending weekly therapy and is doing well on adjusted medication levels. He looks forward to attending support group sessions and finally feels like he has found others he can speak to who understand what he’s going through, that he’s no longer alone. Moshe and his case manager also maintain regular contact; and Moshe knows that he has someone in his corner advocating on his behalf. We helped facilitate a family meeting with several of Moshe’s siblings to educate them about Moshe’s bipolar disorder and discuss the best ways they can be there for their brother. As Moshe moves forward, we will continue to work with him at every step of the journey towards a happier future.

If you or someone you know is struggling, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Amudim is just a phone call and here to help.
