Unpacking the Baggage, Unraveling the Damage

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder comes in various shapes and symptoms, and can be triggered by a multitude of factors depending on the source of the trauma. It can often feel like an isolating and debilitating challenge with no end in sight. But thankfully, after decades of research and study, we are living during a time when there are numerous resources that are readily available to assist those who are struggling to find lasting relief.

It had been many years since Avi* spoke of the sexual abuse he had experienced as a teenager; he assumed that with time, the wounds would heal and that he would be able to move on with his life. But Avi found himself at the age of 33 experiencing bouts of anxiety and panic attacks, and struggling to maintain a relationship that could lead to the marriage and family for which he had always yearned.

Feeling desperate for guidance, Avi reached out to his rebbe of many years, who advised him to call Amudim. After a comprehensive assessment of Avi’s history and symptoms, our case manager determined that he was suffering from PTSD, and recommended that Avi immediately begin individual trauma therapy that would later be anchored by group support. Several months after beginning treatment, Avi reports that he has finally begun processing his childhood abuse, and he has started challenging many of the negative self beliefs he has been carrying as a burden for so long. Avi is rediscovering a spiritual connection and faith that he thought he had lost and is feeling overall more empowered.

While this journey towards healing is still a work in progress, and Avi is still dealing with challenging triggers, he feels hopeful that with continued support, he will be able to start building the future he has always wanted for himself. He now knows that he is not alone in what he experienced nor in facing whatever steps come next.

If you or someone you know is struggling, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Amudim is just a phone call away and here to help.
