Aching to Live a Normal Life
November 11, 2022

We never know what case might next arrive at our doorstep; so many individuals are facing mental and physical challenges based on past and current circumstances, and our goal is to help them in whatever way they need. Each person we assist is another potential life saved; no matter the age, gender or background, we strive to bring people back from the precipice of their pain and support them in finding a way to heal.

Ayala*, a 24 year-old suffering from severe depression, reached out to Amudim after a concerned neighbor suggested she call us. After a long conversation where our case manager did everything possible to put Ayala at ease, she broke down about the emotional pain with which she had been struggling for several years, and the secret experimentation with self-harm that had become Ayala’s main source of comfort.

Her case manager saw that the best option for Ayala would be an inpatient treatment program; but Ayala felt terrified and alone. The case manager provided sympathy and support and assured Ayala that she would be with her at every step of the way; assuaged about her main concerns, Ayala agreed to get help, and we connected her with an excellent facility that takes her family’s insurance.

We have maintained regular contact with Ayala; and she reports that while the work has not been easy, she is cautiously optimistic. She has begun opening up and establishing connections with other individuals in her environment to whom she can relate; Ayala is also allowing herself to feel rather than numb her pain with damaging behaviors. She states that she feels more alive and present than she has in a long time, and is grateful for the support she is receiving. We are hopeful that in time, Ayala will reach a place of healing and can look forward to a happy and healthier future.

If you or someone you know is struggling, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Amudim is here and ready to help.
