In an ideal world, our home and work life are successful and in sync, the ultimate formula for happiness as an adult. But while one area might be skyrocketing, the other can be floundering; and this will usually lead to stressful circumstances despite how good things might seem. When we can find a way to determine what is missing and the tools to address it, the void left in one area can be filled, leading to true and whole contentment.
Zev* is a 33 year-old with a successful and flourishing career. That has been his focus since graduating college; and he recently made the significant move from the East coast, where he grew up, to the Midwest, to pursue a new job opportunity.
While he was excited to begin this new stage, after several months, Zev found himself experiencing loneliness and depression, missing the family and friends he had left behind in the move. His long hours and lack of time to connect or establish new relationships were also playing a significant role in his feelings of isolation.
After confiding about his situation with a close friend whom he finally found the time to call, his friend suggested that Zev reach out to Amudim, describing how we had previously helped one of his family members.
Our case manager listened with a sympathetic ear and suggested some appropriate options that might help Zev, such as connecting with a therapist and finding local groups to expand his new social circle.
We referred Zev to a mental health counselor near his new home, and he began weekly sessions. They too continued to work on both the emotions Zev was experiencing and establishing practical tools to address them and their cause.
Several months later, Zev reported back to his case manager, noting that his mood overall has gotten better and that he is acclimating himself to his new environment, finding ways to join new social activities; he is hopeful that with continued support and the creation and expansion of his interpersonal connections, his emotional well-being will continue to improve and catch up with his professional achievements.
If you or someone you know is struggling, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Amudim is a phone call away and here to help.
