Esther* is a 42-year-old wife and mother of three. Most days, her life looks steady from the outside. For years, though, she’s been dealing with an eating disorder that has affected her health and her ability to feel present at home.
Before reaching out to Amudim, Esther had already been through several higher levels of care covered by insurance. Each time came with hope. And each time, she left feeling discouraged and unsure what to do next. She was doing everything she could to keep daily life moving, but the eating disorder was still there, and it was getting harder to manage.
When Esther called, she wasn’t asking for another program. She was asking for guidance, and for a provider who actually specializes in eating disorders. She wanted something more focused than what she had already tried.
In speaking with our case manager, one thing was clear: Esther wasn’t starting from zero. She was already seeing a mental health counselor. What was missing was specialized eating disorder care, and a plan that helped everyone work together instead of in separate lanes.
Our case manager suggested a therapist with specific expertise in eating disorders who could work alongside her existing provider. That specialist also recommended consistent medical oversight, including weekly check-ins with a general practitioner to monitor Esther’s physical health.
Esther was clear that she did not want to return to a higher level of care. Past experiences had left her feeling defeated rather than helped. She wanted support that respected her boundaries and allowed her to stay present in her life and for her family.
With a coordinated approach - ongoing therapy, specialized eating disorder treatment, and weekly medical follow-ups - Esther is more stable right now. She’s still in the middle of treatment, and she knows progress isn’t always linear. But she feels more grounded, grateful to have a team that understands what she needs and helps her take it one step at a time.
