When Rivka* first began learning about social and emotional health in school, she didn’t realize how important those lessons would become.

At the time, SEL felt like another class, another discussion, another topic she was expected to listen to and remember. But slowly, those lessons started giving her language for things she had been feeling but didn’t know how to explain.

So when Rivka began to realize that her relationship with food and her body had become unhealthy, and how much she was really struggling, a part of her already knew this was not something she had to carry alone.

She remembered from the classes that when something inside feels too heavy or confusing, it deserves care. And that struggling is not something to be ashamed of.

She then reached out for support and found the courage to speak to her parents and explain how scared she was. From there, the right steps began to unfold. She was seen by a doctor, evaluated by specialists, and eventually received a proper diagnosis for an eating disorder.

Hearing that diagnosis was not easy. It made everything feel real in a way she could no longer push aside. But it also gave her something she desperately needed: clarity and a path forward.

She knew what she was experiencing mattered, and with the right help, she could begin to heal.

Today, Rivka is doing well in her recovery and still getting the care and support she needs. What began as a lesson in school became something she carried with her when she needed it most.

That lesson became the bridge between struggling silently and getting help.

It became her lifeline.

best part of my story

After a long season of just getting through, it can be hard to believe there’s still more waiting for us.

But slowly, the days ahead may begin to feel a little less heavy. We can start looking forward to the beautiful moments to come and discovering pieces of ourselves we haven’t met yet.

We can step into new chapters that don’t have to be shaped by survival.

And maybe the best parts of our story haven’t been written yet…

The pen is still in our hands, and we get to choose how we move forward. ✍🏻

UWS

On June 2nd, Mindy and Brian Pfefferman opened their home on the Upper West Side - and a room full of neighbors showed up to listen.

The evening was an Amudim awareness event, and what guests heard was real: over 24,000 individuals and families reached across 44 states, offices in New York and Israel, and case managers who hold your hand A to Z - without charging you a cent for it. They also heard about Darcheinu and Our Path, Amudim's SEL curriculum now expanding into hundreds of schools, built on a simple belief that prevention is not optional.

People came as neighbors. They left as partners.

Thank you, Mindy and Brian.
The chesed of opening your home reflects exactly who you are.
