For nearly fifteen years, Nancy* had built a strong therapeutic relationship with the psychiatrist who helped her manage her chronic depression. Together, they developed a treatment plan that provided stability and hope, allowing her to move forward one day at a time.
Then life changed.
After relocating to another state, Nancy learned that her longtime doctor could no longer continue treating her because of state licensing requirements. She suddenly found herself facing more than just a move to a new home. She had to find a new psychiatrist, trust someone she had never met and worry about continuing the care that was so important to her wellbeing.
The thought of starting over felt overwhelming.
Recognizing how important it was to avoid any interruption in treatment, Nancy's psychiatrist encouraged her to contact Amudim for help.
From their first conversation, the case manager understood that Nancy wasn't simply looking for another doctor. She was grieving the loss of a trusted therapeutic relationship while trying to adjust to a new community and a new stage of life. The uncertainty left her feeling anxious about what came next.
Our case manager worked closely with Nancy to identify a local psychiatrist who took her insurance and would be a good fit, and he provided encouragement throughout the transition. He acknowledged the courage it took to place her trust in someone new and reminded her that meaningful therapeutic relationships take time to build. As Nancy began working with her new provider, the case manager continued checking in, encouraging patience as medication adjustments and the general process unfolded.
Today, Nancy has been seeing her new psychiatrist for several months. While her journey continues, she is grateful she did not have to navigate this transition alone. With the right support, what once felt like an overwhelming change has become another step toward long-term stability and healing.

Sometimes the question isn’t whether we noticed a change. It’s what we should be paying attention to next.
No single answer gives us the whole picture.
But asking ourselves these questions can help us understand whether we’re looking at a passing moment, or a pattern that may be telling us there’s more to understand. 🔍
When someone experiences abuse, crime, or trauma, knowing what comes next can feel overwhelming.
