Trigger Warning! Sexual Abuse.

Having people in your corner who have your back and provide unconditional love is essential to effectively navigating life’s challenges. When someone faces a terrible trauma and is missing that support, the results can be devastating. But there are fortunately resources available to help those who may not be finding it elsewhere; and when we are able to connect an individual with the necessary assistance, it can be life changing.

Gabriella* called us in need of help with an unfortunately all too common case. She had been seeing a therapist for several months to work through severe trauma based on having been sexually assaulted by a family member at a young age. When she told her parents, they insisted that she keep it a secret and forbade her from telling anyone what had occurred. The combination of the physical violation coupled with the betrayal she incurred from those who were supposed to believe and support her sent Gabriella into a dark and guarded place that lasted for several years.

At 22, Gabriella had fortunately found a way into therapy, begun dating, and was engaged to be married. She needed continued emotional support more than ever as she prepared to establish healthy foundations for her marriage. But there was a major roadblock. Gabriella could no longer afford to continue treatment, so her therapist suggested that she reach out to Amudim to see if any help was available.

After a long discussion with our case manager, it was clear that Gabriella qualified for funding through Project Heal, a sub division of Amudim that subsidizes therapy for victims of sexual abuse. The case manager helped Gabriella fill out the necessary paperwork; and Gabriella felt a tremendous sense of relief that she would be able to continue therapy at this essential juncture. We are happy to report that Gabriella has almost completed her first round of treatment through Project Heal; and she continues to make progress with her therapist and is working towards a place of healing and the hopes of a happier future.

If you or someone you know is struggling, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Amudim is here and ready to help.
