Love and Loss
May 12, 2023

While loss is an inevitable part of life, that does not make it any easier to face. Especially when a loved one’s passing is untimely or sudden, the challenges of healing can be even more difficult. Support is key during this trying time; when someone is able to lean in and know that he/she is not alone and does not have to always be strong, then the stages of grieving become not simple but a bit less daunting to traverse.

Sara*, a 27 year-old who had just tragically lost her brother, called us about what support groups might be available in her area to help her process and deal with her grief.

Our case manager conducted a full intake and inquired whether Sara had a therapist, which she did. They had explored the loss in several sessions, but Sara had reached an impasse, and she felt that the peer support and empathy from others with similar experiences would be more helpful. Sara and her case manager discussed several options ranging from in person to virtual groups tailored specifically to those dealing with the loss of a sibling. Sara felt that remote meetings would be the best fit, and she signed on to begin within two days of the call.

After only several weeks, we are happy to note that Sara shared that she has never felt so seen or heard by a group or individual; and she is grateful to have a safe space to process her grief. Our case manager continues to check in regularly with Sara to ensure that she is moving forward and finding some solace during this difficult time.

If you or someone you know is struggling, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Amudim is just a phone call away and here to help in any way we can.
