Robert Frost once said that “the only way out is through.” While it might seem like the easier route to ignore the challenges we’ve faced and only look forward, if we don’t acknowledge and resolve what has happened, we will pay a far greater price in the future. Yet if we can work up the courage to seek help and the faith to believe that there is a way to get through, there is hope of emerging healthier and happier on the other side.

Ari* had what seemed like a picture perfect life: happy marriage, great father and husband, successful career. And on the surface, nothing really changed. But when Ari began lashing out at his wife and children on an almost daily basis, something he had never done before, they both became concerned enough to seek guidance in discovering the source of this new and damaging behavior. Ari was like a different person, bitter, angry and confused why this was happening. A few years earlier, Amudim had helped Ari’s brother with an unrelated issue; so reaching out to us for assistance felt like the right call.

Our case worker spoke with the couple, and after conducting a thorough assessment, set Ari up with a therapist whom he began seeing on a weekly basis. During their time together, Ari uncovered a lot of job-related stress that he had buried for months, as well as trauma from his childhood that had never been resolved. Years of repression had taken their toll, and what Ari was experiencing was the result of all of those emotions breaking through the protective barriers he had built. Fortunately, Ari and his wife realized early on that something was wrong and sought outside help. And having his wife’s support while he did the hard but necessary work in therapy was a significant boost to Ari’s belief that he could get better.

After several months of therapy, Ari reports seeing much improvement and is focused on the positive changes he and his family are seeing. He plans to continue his sessions and maintains regular contact with his case worker; and we are hopeful that Ari is well on his way on the road to healing.

If you or someone you know is struggling, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Amudim is just a phone call away and here to help.
