For every call we receive from someone like Devorah*, there are so many other men and women struggling who are either too scared to call or don't believe that their complaint is “large” enough to warrant support. But anxiety is an illness that impacts so many individuals, at any age and based on a variety of factors; and it is extremely treatable if a person is able to work up the courage to ask for help.

When Devorah called, she shared that she had been struggling with mental health concerns for several years, and it had reached the point that it was affecting her marriage and ability to run her household. She had never been in therapy, but was seeking guidance to find someone local to her home so that she could learn how to better manage her daily anxiety and be a better wife, mother, and most importantly, feel better for her own peace of mind and health. She had recently told her brother about her challenges, and he recommended that she reach out to Amudim.

Our case manager provided a listening and compassionate ear and suggested several appropriate therapists as well as immediate emotional support. Devorah scheduled two free phone consultations, and one seemed like a comfortable fit; she began weekly sessions within a few days of that first call, and the therapist worked with Devorah to find a rate she could afford based on a sliding scale. Two months in, Devorah is continuing therapy and reports that the situation at home is slowly improving and that she is working through the sources of her anxiety. She is considering medication as an added support, and her therapist connected Devorah with a psychiatrist who can provide supplemental assistance if needed.

As Devorah maintains regular contact with her case manager, she has noted that she finally feels connected and content within her relationships with friends and family; and she is grateful for the support she knows is just a phone call away.

If you or a loved one is struggling, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Amudim is here and available to help in any way possible.
